JuMP UP is JuMP Company’s new addition to our musical theatre offerings for youth. Historically, JuMP has produced a winter show and a summer show. JuMP UP shows will take place in the fall. The idea behind this program is to give older youth an opportunity to participate in a show that is built and run like a professional theatre production.
JuMP UP is geared towards youth who want expanded opportunities to focus on growing and honing their craft. Here is some of what you can experience in a JuMP UP production:
– Smaller cast sizes
– More one-on-one development
– Shows that may not typically be done in our winter and summer productions
– Participation with adults from other theatre groups
– Professionally focused rehearsals and productions
– Unique performance venue opportunities
– More performances than our winter and summer shows (typically 10 shows)
– Understudy and swing opportunities
– Advanced opportunities in tech, sets, props, costumes and production
– Live music opportunities where possible
JuMP Up shows are for youth 14-19 of age. You must fall within this age bracket at the time of auditions, so you must be at least 14 and under 20 by the last day of auditions. Each show is subject to changing these ages based on the needs of the production. Each show picked for a JuMP Up production is given extensive consideration. Some shows may push boundaries into exploring subject matter or content that makes us feel, think critically and explore emotional depth. They will challenge us. Not every JuMP UP show may be the right fit for each person. We encourage you to research each show and determine if you’d like to participate. We expect anyone participating in the program to bring a professional, dedicated and committed mindset to the show.
JuMP UP shows will typically be performed the end of October through the beginning of November, but dates will be determined by theatre availability. JuMP UP rehearsals will typically run for 3 hours per evening Monday-Thursday but each production’s creative team will make the final decision on those schedules, and they will be posted on the audition page prior to auditions. As with all JuMP Company productions, we work on a volunteer basis and there will be some expectations on parent volunteer hours to help make the production successful. Those specific requirements will also be put on the audition page prior to auditions so everyone is aware of the commitment.
The production fee for a JuMP UP production is $200. As always, financial aid is available if needed.
As JuMP UP begins, we anticipate making adjustments to how the program is run, where we do shows, what shows make sense, and how the program fits into JuMP’s mission of Inspiring Excellence in Youth Through Musical Theatre. We will continue to raise the bar for youth in the Magic Valley as we offer this opportunity to JuMP UP!
